Congenital hip dislocation: late presentation

A 9-month-old baby with a late-diagnosed congenital dislocation of the left hip was referred to us from the United Kingdom. Other referral centers had proposed traction (2 weeks), casting (3 months), and procedures under general anesthesia.

At OrthoChildren Center, a correct initial clinical assessment and the appropriate use of ultrasound, radiography, and orthotics allowed us to achieve this result without the need for traction, anesthesia, or casting.

Radiographs at 18 months show good centration, without signs of avascular necrosis (AVN).
