Hip dislocation in patients with peripheral neuropathy is a progressive condition. It is therefore not a congenital dislocation (present at birth) but an acquired condition that can develop progressively, mostly during adolescence, with acetabular dysplasia and subluxation of the femoral head.

It is essential that affected children be screened for this condition, which is often poorly known, even among orthopedic surgeons.
If pathological changes are detected, bone correction procedures (femoral osteotomies, pelvic osteotomies) will need to be scheduled after appropriate radiographic and CT studies.
