Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome
Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterized by a triad of vascular anomalies, limb hypertrophy, and varicose veins. From an orthopedic perspective, appropriate treatment of the lower limb length discrepancy is essential.
We use modern and excellent surgical techniques to intervene on the pathology “Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome“
Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterized by a triad that includes:
- vascular anomalies (capillary malformations)
- limb hypertrophy
- varicose veins.
From an orthopedic point of view, adequate treatment of the difference in length of the lower limbs is necessary.
Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome: Orthopedic Treatment
The syndrome is generally associated with overgrowth of the affected limb, both in terms of volume (macrosomia) and length (hypermetria).
Orthopedic treatment is primarily aimed at equalizing the length difference.
Hemi-epiphysiodesis (guided growth) for leg length discrepancy generally needs to be planned at the appropriate time.
See the dedicated sheet on Hemi-epiphysiodesis (guided growth) for leg length discrepancy
Risks of treatment
The main risks are:
- too early intervention : the growth slowdown is excessive
- late intervention : the equalization of the heterometry is partial
It is important to contact centers with experience in this condition, like OrthoChildren Center.
