New sheet: “Treatment of Leg Length Discrepancy in children (Hemi-epiphysiodesis or guided growth)”

📌 A new sheet on the treatment of LLD (Leg Length Discrepancy) in children using hemi-epiphysiodesis (guided growth) has been published on our website.

Hemi-epiphysiodesis (or guided growth) is a low-invasiveness intervention for the recovery of small differences in length, approximately between 1.5 and 3.5 cm in children.

Hemi-epiphysiodesis (guided growth): what is it?

Hemi-epiphysiodesis (guided growth) is a procedure:
Non-invasive
– Which doesn’t require immobilization
Effective when done correctly and with the right indications

Hemi-epiphysiodesis (guided growth): objectives

This procedure has the goal of equalizing a difference in length by slowing the growth of the longer limb.

Hemi-epiphysiodesis (guided growth): when to perform it?

Hemi-epiphysiodesis (guided growth) is generally used for length differences between 1.5 and 3.5 cm. However, this is a general indication and must be evaluated in the individual patient based on different parameters.

Hemi-epiphysiodesis (guided growth): risks

It is important to refer to Centres with experience in the application of this procedure. Errors in indication and application of this procedure can lead to very poor results. OrthoChildren Center regularly performs these types of interventions.
