Down syndrome: orthopedic problems
Down syndrome can cause a variety of orthopedic problems , including flat feet, patellar dislocation, hip and cervical spine instability, and generalized ligament laxity. Each of these conditions requires specific treatments.
Down syndrome: flat foot
Treatment of flatfoot in patients with Down syndrome is different than treatment of idiopathic flatfoot.
In treatment, it is especially necessary to take into account the ligament laxity and the significant tendency for flatfoot to recur after correction.
Down syndrome: patellar dislocation
Patellar dislocation is a common condition in patients with Down syndrome. Surgical treatment differs from traumatic patellar dislocations.
